Manhole Covers

I have had an enduring interest in Manhole covers, we walk over them in our urban environments all the time.
Some of the covers are beautifully designed, others more mundane.
The older iron covers are increasingly giving way to plastic covers.
Some are quite tiny, others large enough for a person to enter.
The art publication 'The Rats Republic' played with the idea of the world beneath our feet and the entry to this world is through Manholes.

Here are some of the art works I have made as part of my interest in Manhole Covers.

This is a plaster cast of a once very familiar Manhole cover seen throughout the UK.

This plaster cast of a decorative cover is just round the corner from my house.
